2024-25 Golden Bear Award Recipients

Isaac Bear Early College High School presents a student from the underclass with a "Golden Bear" award each week. This award is given in recognition of outstanding leadership, achievement, and/or initiative. Recipients of this award have demonstrated any or all of the aforementioned qualities and have been exemplary members of our Learning community.


Benjamin Stout Golden Bear Award

"This week’s Golden Bear goes to a student who is incredibly kind, helpful, and smart. He is ready to lead both in, and out of the classroom. This student is both funny and insightful and understands what it means to be a Bearhawk. He is always focused, whether working on his own, or in groups, and truly understands the dynamics of his classes. We are proud to award this Golden Bear to Benjamin Stout!"

Annabeth Holmes Golden Bear Award

"It is the sophomore team's pleasure to present this week's Golden Bear to a student who consistently asks thoughtful questions and actively participates in every class. Her insightful comments push discussions further, benefiting both her peers and the learning environment. Even when absent, she ensures all her work is completed, showing dedication and responsibility. Beyond the classroom, she’s a leader, involved in various clubs, and has impressively taken the initiative to start and lead Mock Trial this year, making her a true asset to our school community.  It is an honor to recognize Annabeth Holmes as this week's Golden Bear!"

"The following sophomore student works diligently in each of her classes. Her dedication to learning goes beyond grades asking inquisitive questions that shows she has a passion for learning material and making sense of the world.  With this sense of exploration and dedication to her class the sophomore teachers know she is going to excel at UNCW.  The sophomore teachers are excited to announce Kayligrace Moody for this week's Golden Bear Award!"

"This week's Golden Bear goes to a freshman who is more than deserving. This student is loyal to their friends, helpful to their peers, and kind to all of their teachers. This student is an incredibly hard worker and does not hesitate to advocate for themselves. The teachers are excited to see this student opening up and stepping into more leadership positions as the year continues, and can't wait to see where this student will go next. They are more than qualified to be a Bearhawk, and more than qualified to receive this Golden Bear award. This week's Golden Bear goes to Guadalupe Garcia Hernandez!"

"This week, the Sophomore teachers would like to award the Golden Bear to a student who has excelled academically this semester and done so with a positive attitude and contribution to their classes. He is always polite and respectful to his teachers and peers, engages in class discussions, and asks insightful questions. This student has been working extremely hard on their National History Day project in civics recently and has produced an excellent display for the upcoming IBEC National History/ Science Fair event. The Sophomore teachers are delighted to award this week's Golden Bear to Owen Gadow!"

She is respectful to everyone she meets and is dedicated to putting her best foot forward in all she does. She provides a unique and thoughtful perspective to class discussions, and her work always reflects deep, critical thought. She is a calming energy in the chaos and never backs down from a challenge. "The Freshman Team is so excited for this week's Golden Bear. This week, our Golden Bear goes to an incredibly kind and collaborative student. They are patient and focused and bring a happy and balanced energy to the classroom. They are calm in any storm and seem to take every challenge in stride. Despite their ability to remain calm, that does not stop them from cracking up their peers (and teachers) with their funny sense of humor! This student is truly a well-rounded, overall fantastic Bearhawk! In addition, this student is competing in the State Science Fair! Recently, she led her team to victory in Envirothon, demonstrating her knowledge and ability to guide others toward success. Her teachers admire her perseverance, willingness to go the extra mile, and the quiet strength she brings to everything she does.
